ATLIER AKIKO
The business began in 1950 when Imperial Household hat designer Hiroo Ichise opened a hat shop specializing in foreign ladies in the Imperial Hotel Arcade. In 1963, after studying under Parisian fashion designer Jean Partet, he returned to Japan and was put in charge of hats for the Imperial Household.

The second-generation owner, Akiko Ichise, learned the spirit and techniques of a hat maker from her father, who was her mentor, and is committed to making everything from materials to sewing by hand. Rather than focusing on design, she continues to make hats that bring out the individuality and beauty of the person wearing them.

In 2023, which marks the 60th anniversary of Hiroo Ichise's move to Paris, we have launched a rebranding project with Yuta Ishikawa, who has built his career at Issey Miyake and Naoki Kizawa Design, as creative director. While respecting the traditions of the atelier, we have revamped the brand into one with a more modern worldview and started efforts to generate new customers from the fall of 2023.
